THE MATAKANA RIVER
The Matakana River was a vital route not only for local Maori but also in early European occupancy.
The fertile surrounding lands of Matakana brought settlers as early as 1849, and a variety of businesses all relying on the river to take their goods back to the masses of Auckland.
As the village prospered roads were paved and the once busy waterway slowed.
We would like to share this historic and vibrant river with you.
Step onboard and enjoy the scenic beauty, as we cruise on the sheltered safe waters.
Travel though a tidal wonderland showcasing New Zealand’s diverse landscape.
We even have local beers and wines that will be sure to help you relax!
THE CAPTAIN
Phil Morris is the proud owner/ operator of Matakana River Tours.
Phil comes from an extensive maritime background both locally and internationally, dating back to his first job straight out of high school as Master of the Local Kawau Cat cruises – located at the entrance of the Matakana River.
It was during this time that the America’s Cup brought a number of large super yachts to New Zealand and this inspired Phil to take his passion internationally and work aboard some of the world’s most luxurious super yachts.
15 years later, 100,000 sea miles and countless stories, Phil has now returned to Matakana, with his passion now focused on providing this same world-class experience in his own back yard. Phil looks forward to welcoming you onboard and sharing with you the beauty that the Matakana River has to offer, in a safe and comfortable environment.
